FIGMMA) oversaw a preliminary qualification stage ahead of the 2016 IMMAF World Championships of Amateur MMA. Taking place in Porto Azzurro under the banner of Storm FC, victorious athletes who successfully progressed to the next qualifying stage featured several IMMAF and 2015 Team Italy veterans, including bantamweight Marco Zannetti (European Open silver medallist & World Championships bronze medallist), middleweight Asterio Lucchesini (European Open bronze medallist), light-heavyweight Paolo Anastasi (World Championships & European Open bronze medallist) and featherweight European Open veteran Michele Martignoni. Also in attendance at the Italian qualifiers was 2015 IMMAF World Champion Micol DiSegni (pictured below, left) who won gold for Italy at 125lbs in Las Vegas before turning professional with a successful debut in October under the banner of notable South African promotion EFC. The next stop for Italian athletes on their road to the IMMAF World Amateur Championships will be the Italian Championship of MMA in Rome on April 17.
