Picture: Saeid Mirzaei’s hand is raised at the 2015 IMMAF World Amateur Championships IMMAF light-heavyweight world champion Saeid Mirzaei won his final amateur contest on January 22, signing off with a 170lb performance and taking home one last title ahead of his anticipated transition to the professional level. The 6’2″ ‘Prince of Persia’ has competed at multiple weights from lightweight to light-heavyweight over the duration of his 12-3 amateur run, and claimed the Battlefield Fight League amateur welterweight crown in his home region of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Victory over opponent Liam Stevenson came in the second round via TKO as the result of a rib injury. Mirzaei is now the only athlete in the promotion’s history to claim both the lightweight and welterweight amateur championships. At the 2015 IMMAF World Championships of Amateur MMA Mirzaei competed at 205lbs as a member of the Canadian Combat Alliance national team in Las Vegas. Mirzaei dominated with three first round victories to earn the gold medal and his place as the world’s top ranked 205lb amateur. Mirzaei will now begin the journey towards his long term goal of unlocking his full potential as a professional Mixed Martial Artist with aspirations of making his way to the UFC.
