Since November Romanian amateurs of the fast growing MMA scene have been competing to earn their place on the country’s national team ahead of this year’s 2016 IMMAF World Amateur Championships in July. Dubbed “Road to Vegas”, Mr Stanciu believes that televised finals “would help the growth of MMA in Romania immensely.” The Romanian Amateur team featured for the first time on the world stage at the 2014 IMMAF World Championships, presenting six competitors and claiming the silver Super Heavyweight medal, courtesy of Nicolo Bonati. One Romanian athlete then participated in the 2015 World Championships, followed by a trio of competitors at the IMMAF European Open to include strawweight silver medal winner Raluca Dinescu. The RMMAF hope to present around eight athletes this July in Las Vegas, as a result of a monthly increase in RMMAF membership which currently features several hundred registered associates.
