Photograph by Hanna Boussouar German actor, Raphaël Vogt, has replaced Tom Madsen at the helm of the German Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GEMMAF) as the organisation’s new president. The Berliner has had an extensive professional television and film career. He is most famous in Germany for his role in the RTL soap Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten (Good times, Bad times) from 1996 to 2005; and for his lead role in the Sat.1 telenovela, Schmetterlinge im Bauch (Butterflies in my Stomach) between 2006 and 2007. Vogt is also an active practitioner of MMA and in October 2013 promoted his first MMA event in Berlin, “Roundhouse MMA”. In his own words; “I have practised martial arts for a long time. I started as a child with judo, then taekwondo, then kick-boxing, eventually arriving at Thai boxing; and now I am training in the ground disciplines of grappling and BJJ for MMA. For some time I have trained almost every day and the Kampsportgym has become my second home. Why? It makes me feel good. I get a clear head. I love this sport, which is so unjustly ostracized. “In joining forces with like-minded friends, I am since 2013 part of the promoter’s group for the Roundhouse MMA event series…” “Since 2014, I have been a member of the German Mixed Martial Arts Federation (GEMMAF) and have worked as a certified judge on behalf of the association at various events like the UFC, the GMC, the German Amateur MMA Championship and Berlin MMA tournaments. “Since for me MMA me is a labour of love and nothing could be more personal to me, I see an opportunity to create an interface for it through the public person I am on television and through the media that I come into contact with.” For more information about GEMMAF visit www.gemmaf.de [caption id="attachment_6923" align="alignnone" width="1500"] Photograph by Stefanie Klein[/caption]]]>
