Aisling Daly has hit out at Irish model Lynn Kelly whose endorsement of an ill-advised workout regime has provoked criticism from the UFC strawweight contender. Independent.ie reported how Kelly, a former Miss Universe Ireland, has publicly celebrated her seven day-exercise regime which regularly induces the model to vomit due to its intensity. Speaking on The Colette Fitzpatrick Show on Newstalk, Kelly said: “If you talk to anybody who does train quite regularly, quite intense training sessions, that’s actually not that uncommon. “If you push your body so hard, you do vomit, but it’s basically a release and then you can keep going.” Kelly has come under scrutiny in the past as a potentially bad influence on young women following a “super skinny selfie” shared on Instagram. Also speaking on The Colette Fitzpatrick Show, Daly criticised the remarks. Speaking from the perspective of a high level combat sport professional, she explained that, “vomiting after training hard is not normal. I’ve never once thrown up while training. I think you should be kind to your body. Exercise, look after it like the beautiful machine it is.” Daly is not the only female UFC athlete to have spoken out about positive body image. Earlier this year UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey famously spoke of her disdain for women who develop their bodies solely for appearance, in response to comments about her muscularity. The interview gained further cultural reach as the audio was used by Beyonce as a live concert intro to the song “Diva” while playing in Toronto this year. ]]>
