(London. 19th September 2015) IMMAF Lightweight Gold Medallist, Josh Ellis, has been forced to withdraw from representing Team UK in the 2015 IMMAF European Open Championships, after breaking his hand. The Swansea Amateur mixed martial arts champion commented: “I’m gutted I can’t represent Team UK at the IMMAF European Championships this November due to a serious injury to my metacarpel. Winning gold at the IMMAF World championships in Las Vegas has been the highlight of my career so far and I was looking forward to facing the best Lightweight MMA fighters across Europe to bring home my second gold medal of the year. If you’re a serious amateur fighter then without a doubt you should be entering the UK trials. Good luck to all of Team UK. I’m sure plenty of medals will be won on home soil.” The UK team tryouts are still underway for the IMMAF tournament which is to take place in Birmingham from 19-22 November 2015 at the Walsall Sports Centre at the University of Wolverhampton, and will be broadcast on UFC FIGHT PASS. As the IMMAF European Open permits two entrants per weight category for each national team, Ellis’ withdrawal opens up a further space for a British Lightweight competitor. The remaining regional UKMMAF tryouts are scheduled as follows:
- 20th September 2015: Cambridge
- 27th September 2015: Scotland
- 4th October 2015: Leeds
