Report by AIMMAA (All India Mixed Martial Arts Association) The BodyPower India Open MMA Championships was held in Mumbai, India, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon on the 21st & 22nd March. Participants from 8 states of India as well as International fighters from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Ivory Coast and USA participated at the mega event. This was the first time that a martial arts festival format was merged with an MMA show in the region. The event was sponsored by BodyPower, a UK based fitness company which holds fitness expo’s across the world. Participants competed in Sport MMA, Grappling, Demo championships and Amateur Full Contact MMA bouts. The entire event was sanctioned under the All India Mixed Martial Arts Association [the sole representative of the IMMAF in India] and under direct permission from the Ministry of Sports India. The grand finale of the event was “Super Fight League 39” as 14 of India’s top pro mma fighters went head to head in an exciting fight card. The show was attended by many Bollywood celebreties including Raj Kundra, SFL Chairman, and Bill Singh, SFL CEO. Nick Orton, CEO of BodyPower said, “The professionalism shown by Daniel and his team from AIMMAA is up there!” Daniel Isaac, National commissioner of the AIMMAA said: “I am pleased to see the overwhelming success of this event.
