On 30th November 2018, International Olympic Committee (IOC)granted provisional recognition to the Federation Internationale de Sambo for Sport Sambo, the Federation of International Lacrosse and the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations. The move is aimed to demonstrate the close cooperation between the IOC and sports bodies, GAISF (Global Association of International Sport Federations), ARISF (Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations) and AIMS (Alliance of Independent recognised Members of Sport). IMMAF – WMMAA have applied for recognition by GAISF under whose umbrella AIMS sits, housing recognised combat sports and martial arts. Acceptance by GAISF is first required as official sport recognition for any discipline aiming for inclusion in the Olympic programme. AIMS President Stephan Fox who was in Tokyo stated: “2018 saw a total of four AIMS Member Federations recognised, where Ice Stock had already been granted recognition at the prior Executive Board meeting this summer“. In a press release, AIMS stated that this news will inspire the remaining AIMS members who are in the process of applying for IOC recognition to continue their development and for the ones who aim for GAISF recognition, to understand the importance of GAISF and AIMS in the sport and Olympic Pyramid. IMMAF – WMMAA Presidents Kerrith Brown and Vadim Finkelchtein extended their congratulations to the newly recognised federations in light of their remarkable achievement.
