Four IMMAF Amateur veterans of the Irish and Icelandic National teams, including 2015 European Open champions, are in action this weekend on Saturday, July 30, in Liverpool, UK. Representing Iceland’s Mjölnir MMA, Amateur Featherweight competitor Bjarki Omarsson (6-4) will compete for the Shinobi Amateur Featherweight title, taking on Englishman Rob Zabitis (5-1). 21 year old Omarsson competed under the IMMAF banner at the 2015 European Open Championships where he advanced to the third round, competing at Lightweight, before losing a Unanimous Decision to eventual Silver medal winner Geir Kare Cemsoylu. In fact, all Omarsson’s losses have come by way of decision, meaning the Icelander has never yet been stopped. He will be joined by team mate Egill Hjordisarson (4-1) who was also in action at last November’s European Open where he made it to the second round of the Light-Heavyweight division before losing out to Bulgarian Bronze medallist Tencho Karaenev, who also progressed to achieved Silver earlier this month at the 2016 IMMAF World Championships. Hjordisarson will compete at Middleweight on July 30 against Englishman Will Jones (3-1). Also representing Mjölnir this weekend will be 2015 European Open Welterweight Gold medallist, Bjarki Palsson. Having triumphed at 170lbs on the IMMAF international platform, Palsson will make his professional debut as a 155lb Lightweight competitor, taking on Adam Szczepaniak (0-2). Additionally on the card, and following a successful pro debut, will be SBG Ireland’s Ben Forsyth (pictured above). The Irishman was awarded Gold as the 205lbs European Open champion, and remains at Light-Heavyweight at the pro level. Forsyth (1-0) takes on Andrzej Backorz (2-7). The former Amateur champion will go on to compete in Dublin this September at BAMMA 26.
